Republicans in Congress have said the next Supreme Court justice should not be nominated until a new president is elected and have vowed not to approve any nominations put forward by President Obama.

We asked readers whether President Obama should nominate a Supreme Court justice to fill Antonin Scalia's seat, following the U.S. Senate leadership's promise not to give a hearing for the nominee.

Mr. Portman of Cincinnati is not on the Senate Judiciary Committee that would hold confirmation hearings.

"Reality is sinking in for voters in both parties that the next president will likely appoint two or three justices to the U.S. Supreme Court, which will impact our nation for decades to come", he said.
