The United Nations on Wednesday carried out its first humanitarian airdrop in Syria to help civilians besieged by Daesh, the UN aid chief said.

The UN's first aid-drop over the Syrian city of Deir al-Zour, part of which is under siege by Islamic State militants, may have been off-target.

He said teams from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent on the ground confirmed that "pallets have landed in the target area as planned".

The UN says 200,000 civilians are living under siege in Deir al-Zour.

Russia's Su-35 fighter jets accompanied the delivery of around 20 tonnes of humanitarian aid sent by global organizations to Syria's Deir ez-Zor, the ceasefire coordination center in Latakia told reporters on Friday.

United Nations Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura said on Thursday that humanitarian aid has reached 110,000 of the 480,000 people that urgently need it in Syrian besieged areas.

The UN says more than 400,000 Syrians live in besieged areas with little or no access to basic supplies amid a civil war that has claimed more than 250,000 lives.

Konashenkov said ceasefire declarations already have been signed by the government and opposition representatives in several areas in the provinces of Homs and Latakia.

Turkey's prime minister has warned a Syrian Kurdish militia against taking advantage of an upcoming truce in Syria for actions that threaten Turkey's security.

The statement says Putin and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani talked about the cease-fire in Syria and both "stressed the importance of a further cooperation between Russian Federation and Iran on Syrian peace settlement, including a continuation of a resolute fight against the IS, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist groups from the UN Security sanctions list".

The report says heavy fighting was ongoing to reopen the road to Aleppo city.

Syria's opposition indicated on Wednesday it was ready for a two-week truce in Syria, saying it was a chance to test the seriousness of the other side's commitment to a US-Russian plan for a cessation of hostilities.

"We have high hopes that we will be able to get through to these places", he said.
