The Toronto Maple Leafs continued their spring cleaning as they sent goaltender James Reimer to the San Jose Sharks.

Did the untimely departure of P.A. Parenteau during the first period of Saturday's game in Montreal hinder Lou Lamoriello's ability to deal the Leafs winger or just delay it? "It was good to see the guys really come out, get on the forecheck and create a couple of fore-checking goals".

The Sharks were seeking an upgrade at backup goalie as Stalock had struggled this season and had apparently lost the confidence of the coaching staff. Stalock had started just three games in more than two months and his.

The Leafs want to know if his AHL success, which includes a 13-4-3 record, will translate to the next level. "He still needs some work on the defensive side", said Penguins GM Jim Rutherford. The fan base there, the whole city, how they can get behind you.

"It's a tough day", said Bernier, who was backed up by Garrett Sparks against Montreal.

Parenteau agreed with his coach's explanation, adding that once the game started, his physical health deteriorated. He will be able to give Jones a bit of a break and if he is to falter at any point during the playoffs, Reimer will be able to take the reins and potentially help the team steal a game or a round. The Leafs could've just waited it out, played it by ear and evaluated where Reimer was at in terms of contract demands in June and July - it would've avoided the perception that they traded Reimer for next to nothing - but this management group has been steadfast in adhering to the plan: all UFAs must go to the highest bidder.

"It's definitely a weird feeling to be going somewhere else".

The James Reimer era in Toronto is over. He played in both the starter and backup roles during a career which began in the winter of 2011 when Reimer burst on the scene as a relative unknown, almost guiding the Leafs to an unlikely playoff berth. Fellow unrestricted free agents Brad Boyes and Michael Grabner may fetch picks deep in some distant draft, and goaltender Jonathan Bernier has been scouted by teams of late.

This year's case comes as the state fights an outbreak of mosquito-borne dengue fever, with 260 cases reported on the Big Island. Researchers at Johns Hopkins said they have found a new biological link between the Zika virus and microcephaly in babies.

While there is no disputing his qualities as a person and a teammate, the soon-to-be 28-year-old is not a good fit for what the rebuilding Leafs.

"We like where our team is at and we look forward to the stretch run", Wilson said.

"We identified a little while ago the things that we'd like to add coming into this deadline", general manager Doug Wilson said. 869 save percentage in February.

He was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Richard Panik and has been playing with the Marlies.

Signing with the New York Islanders in 2010-11, Pierre-Alexandre played his first full National Hockey League season, scoring 20 goals, with 33 assists (53 points) in 81 games.

Reimer joins Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf as fixtures of the Leafs organization to have been dealt elsewhere in the past year.

Truth be told, if Roman Polak and Nick Spaling fetched a pair of second-round picks from San Jose, the Leafs should get no less than a second for a healthy Parenteau - the key word being "healthy" - if not more.

The Capitals are right up against the cap ceiling ahead of Monday's trade deadline.
