Campaign: New Mexico Gov. Martinez to endorse Marco Rubio

Attorney Paul Kennedy said Friday that an investigation into campaign finance activities by McCleskey has been terminated and that no related charges are forthcoming. Martinez, who serves as chairwoman of the Republican Governors Association, has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick for the eventual nominee.

Gov. Susana Martinez has until Wednesday to sign, veto or disregard dozens of bills that are still outstanding.

"I have known Marco for several years, and he has gone out of his way to reach out to me to discuss how important issues impact New Mexico long before he ever entered the race for president", Martinez said in a statement to the Journal.

Martinez says that she has a long-standing relationship with Rubio.

Martinez was scheduled to join Rubio on the campaign trail Friday in Kansas and to speak Saturday at an event for Rubio in Florida.

"I wholeheartedly trust Marco to keep us safe and ensure a better tomorrow, and I look forward to campaigning with him later this week".

Martinez's endorsement is likely to help Rubio among New Mexico Republican primary voters. A principled and pragmatic leader, Governor Martinez easily won re-election in 2014, with 48 percent of the Hispanic vote in a state that leans Democrat. The Rubio campaign described her as one of the most popular conservative governors.

The U.S. Department of Justice doesn't generally confirm the existence of such investigations. Florida's 99 delegates are at state in the state's winner-take-all primary.
