Subaru has logged impressive sales gains in the U.S.in recent years, largely because its small, all-wheel-drive crossovers have been launched at the right time to take advantage of the growing popularity of all vehicles in those segments.

Last week, Subaru released a teaser image of the next-gen Imrpeza.

The 2017 Subaru Impreza has been revealed ahead of a debut at the New York Motor Show, with the United Kingdom likely to get a hatchback version.

On the inside, Subaru has replaced most of the buttons on the dashboard with a new infotainment system, and whose appearance resembles most smartphones.

The once-compact Subaru Impreza has put on some muscle, with the 2017 Subaru Impreza extending the wheelbase by 1 inch, overall length by 1.6 inches, and the width by 1.5 inches, though its height has been reduced by 0.4 inches.

Russia: Black boxes from plane crash site are badly damaged
Countless families are in mourning today after a plane crash in Russian Federation killed all 62 people on board. About 700 rescue workers were sent to the site of the crash and the fire was extinguished, media reports said.

The brand claims the new architecture is "designed to deliver significantly higher levels of driving pleasure, agility, crash protection and ride comfort" and "will underpin a variety of upcoming Subaru vehicles, including hybrids". Power jumps 4 ponies to 152, and it mates to either a manual or continuously variable transmission. Subaru is also keen to ensure that even standard versions are good to drive; our spy shots have shown the auto being benchmarked against the Ford Focus and Mazda 3. This helps reduce body roll by 50 percent compared to the current Impreza.

Inside, the new-look Impreza isn't quite as big of a shift as some may have expected. New driver assist tech for the 2017 model includes tire pressure monitoring for individual wheels, as well as reverse automatic braking. Moving to Premium adds the Starlink Safety and Security features, 16-inch alloy wheels and an All-Weather Package with heated front seats, windshield and exterior mirrors along with automatic headlights. In the Sport model, active torque vectoring increases corning capability.

There will be four trims in total - 2.0i base, Premium, Sport and Limited.

Both fuel economy and price have yet to be announced, but will likely be set closer the car's on sale date.
