As part of the multi-year agreement, Kelly will host her own daytime news program, anchor a Sunday evening news show and take part in special political programming and other breaking news coverage.

"Megyn is an exceptional journalist and news anchor, who has had an extraordinary career" Lack said.

Her schedule at Fox, where she hosted a daily news show at 9pm U.S. eastern time, made that impossible.

Fox News said Tuesday Kelly would end her 12-year run at the network on January 6. It will air Monday-Friday at a time to be confirmed.

In a press release announcing Kelly's hire, NBC said: "Kelly will become anchor of a new one hour daytime program that she will develop closely with NBC News colleagues".

Megyn Kelly is signing off on Fox News to join rival NBC News.

I've worked so hard for this. "I did what I had to do because Gary is a phenomenal player and all the credit to him". Anderson said: "It's well deserved for Michael with the year he's had, but I've had a good three years".

At the time, Fox News CEO Rupert Murdoch, who is also co-executive chairman of its parent company, 21st Century Fox, told The New York Times he hoped Kelly won't go anywhere. While NBC and other networks had said they could not match the amount offered by Fox, it is likely the network came close and at least offered more than Kelly's current salary of $15 million per year. When asked, an NBC News source said "all timing is TBD".

Kelly later revealed that Trump was also "angry" at her because of a segment she ran during her show about his divorce from Ivana Trump.

Kelly was an increasingly unhappy lawyer in 2004 when she parlayed a part-time gig at a Washington station into a reporting job at Fox. Since 2013, Kelly has anchored FOX News Channel's (FNC) The Kelly File, which she helped to create.

Fox News ended 2016 as the most-watched cable network in total day (with an average of 1.4 million viewers, up 29% from 2015) and primetime (2.4 million, up 36%). During the 2016 presidential election, she attracted the ire of Donald Trump after she questioned him about the derogatory way he had referred to women in the past. He later responded by suggesting she was menstruating. NBC made the move official shortly after the Times published its story.

Kelly's star power grew after she became a flashpoint in the presidential campaign after Trump objected to her questioning in the first Republican presidential debate a year and a half ago.

Well, it sounds like Kelly's work will be very appreciated at NBC!
