Scarlett Johansson has been named the top grossing actor of 2016. Amid all the stalwarts she proved herself once again and has become the highest grossing actor of 2016, leaving behind names like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. her Captain America: Civil War, which ran in the theatres for nearly a year, and her other releases like The Jungle Book and Hail, Caesar; she is now the richest actor of 2016. Following close behind Johansson are her Civil War co-stars Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr., who both tied for second place at 1.5 billion due to their respective roles as Captain America and Iron Man.
The only repeat from last year's list, which was topped by Chris Pratt, was Downey, who starred in 2015's highest-grossing film, "Avengers: Age of Ultron".
Still, the Forbes list implied in its descriptions that the bulk of the box office figures generated were thanks to the actors' franchise work. She was also crowned the highest-grossing actress in history in June 2016. Coming in behind her on Forbes' list were Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., who tied for second place with the $1.15 billion haul brought in by the Marvel movie. The movie was the only 2016 film for both actors.
