(SCI) is proud to announce that for the 2017 model year, four Subaru models have once again received top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Every time the IIHS adds new criteria for Top Safety Pick+, automakers spend the next year preparing cars to meet and beat these tests.

Toyota/Lexus leads manufacturers with nine cars in the top category, including the updated Toyota Corolla. The 2017 IIHS TSP+ rating requires a vehicle to earn Good ratings in the crashworthiness tests, an Advanced or Superior rating for front crash prevention and a Good or Acceptable headlight rating. "In order to carry the TSP+ rating, headlights must now receive a "good" or acceptable" rating.

Of the 38 Pick + awards, 25 went to Acura, Honda, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru or Toyota. Only three models are from domestic manufacturers, the Buick Envision, Chevrolet Volt, and Chrysler Pacifica (built after August 2016). Among the modifications included is the need to have Good or at least an Acceptable rating in the auto headlight test in order to qualify for the + pick. Like a year ago, they also must nab an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating for front crash prevention, and as part of that criteria, offer autobrake technology.

Social media gone wrong for 'Game of Thrones' star Maisie Williams
Actress Maisie Williams, best known for playing Arya Stark on the HBO series "Game of Thrones", had her Facebook account hacked. Maisie Williams is the latest celebrity to have personal photos distributed on the internet without her consent.

The Honda Ridgeline is the only full-size pickup to achieve a Top Safety Pick + rating.

"The field of contenders is smaller this year because so few vehicles have headlights that do their job well, but it's not as small as we expected when we made a decision to raise the bar for the awards", said Adrian Lund, IIHS president.

Cars that don't pass the bar in the headlight evaluation are still eligible for the Top Safety Pick award without the "+" designation. The Subaru Legacy continued its streak as the longest running midsize sedan by receiving top safety ratings for an astounding 12th year in a row, while the Forester extended its title as the longest running victor in the small SUV category with a record 11th win.
